Is Your Boiler Ready for the Winter?

Winter is approaching and the weather is getting colder very quickly. While you might enjoy the colder weather, your boiler certainly may not. If your boiler is not properly equipt to deal with the colder temperatures, you can run into some issues when you need it the most! To keep things running smoothly, follow our top tips!

Bleed your radiators

Bleeding your radiators is a simple task, but one that keeps your home toasty and warm. You can bleed your radiators using a radiator key, which costs only a few pounds from any DIY shop, and the whole process can be learnt through a youtube search.

Check your boiler pressure

Ideally, your boiler pressure gauge should read between 1 and 1.5 bar. If it has dropped, you can easily top it up using the instructions given by your manufacturer. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, our team will be more than happy to help! Your boiler pressure should not regularly drop, so if you find yourself topping it up often, it may be worth calling out a gas engineer to take a look at what is going on.

Service your boiler

Getting your boiler serviced before the winter is the best way to ensure there are not going to be any problems when you come to turn it on when you need it. The ideal time to get it serviced is towards the end of summer, around August or September. However, it is always an excellent investment.

Lag your pipes

One thing the cold weather can do is cause your external pipes to freeze- even leading them to burst. A burst pipe can cause a lot of trouble for you, but it can very easily be avoided. To protect your pipes, you need to buy some readymade pipe-lagging, available for a few pounds in any DIY store. It takes minutes to slip on but gives years of protection!
