FAQ's Before Installing a New Boiler

Have you thought about what size, manufacturer and type your new boiler needs to be? If not- don’t worry! We’ve listed some top tips to help you decide which boiler best suits your home.

Which type of boiler do you need?

Conventional boilers

Conventional boilers require two water tanks and a storage cylinder, making them best suited to larger homes with a lot of excess loft space. They can cater to a high demand fro hot water and a great for large families and multiple bathrooms. However, they are limited by the capacity of your hot water tank. Once this has emptied, you will have to wait for it to refill and heat up.

System boilers

System boilers only require one water tank and a cylinder, but can still meet a high demand for hot water. This makes them great for multiple bathrooms, as well as for homes with less available space. Similar to a conventional boiler, they are limited by the capacity of the water tank.

Combination boilers

Combi boilers operate using the mains system, so don’t require any tanks or cylinders. They are great for smaller homes and are very economical. They heat water as and when it is needed, meaning they waste very little energy or money. However, they can’t cope with a high demand for hot water, as this effects the water pressure.

What size boiler do you need?

The size of your boiler will generally depend on which type you go for, but also depends on how high your demand for water is. A boiler too large will use unnecessary energy and a boiler too small will struggle to meet your demand. Don’t worry, our gas engineers can help you out with the sizing.

Where will your boiler go?

A lot of new boilers are wall mounted and hidden in a kitchen cupboard, so are out of sight and out of mind. Although, this may not suit your home, so consider other places that may work better. Other options tend to include airing cupboards or other unused spaces.
